Glacier Bay lies west of Juneau on Alaska’s Inside Passage. It was declared a national monument in 1925 by President Calvin Coolidge. This dynamic environment was later dedicated as a National Park and Preserve. Glacier Bay is one of the most inaccessible national parks in the United States. Yet it offers spectacular scenery. I was fortunate to be on board a ship that cruised through the bay and observed fantastic views of glaciers and the snow covered shoreline. |

mtncorg Sun Sep 20, 2009 15:46 UTC Glacier Bay is a fantastic place. A kayak helps get you closer to the glaciers and through the pack ice better, but you don't have such elaborate meals;-] Nice pages! | jumpingnorman Thu Feb 12, 2009 04:13 UTC spectacular pics from ALASKA! My favorite is the Bald Eagle on the ice --- excellent one! Norman :) --- sad that glaciers have retreated from Glacier Bay... | atufft Mon Aug 4, 2008 07:07 UTC What an outstanding contribution to VT! The General tips are particularly interesting and helpful in understanding more about Global Warming and glaciers in general. | iaint Thu Jul 24, 2008 07:14 UTC not many HPs make me want to go, but this does! well done |
