Hot dog vendors: Terrific sausage sandwiches!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: Sausage truck on Wellington Street

If the weather is warm, there are many vendors selling sausage sandwiches out of trucks in the downtown area. On Wellington Street in the business district, I found one that looked extremely clean. Luckily, I stopped at a time that was not so busy -- and I had a chance to chat with the owner. He is a real connoisseur of sausages! He offers a choice of Italian (a little spicy), German (bratwurst), and Polish (kielbasa). I had the Italian sausage which was cooked to perfection and served on a delicious hoagie roll. This sausage sandwich was vastly superior to the dirty water hot dogs that are standard in New York City.

Favorite Dish: High quality sausages, high quality bread, a good assortment of toppings, and a clean environment.

    Shawarma!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:

  • If you looking to eat well in Toronto on a limited budget, then you only need to remember one word -- shawarma! There are many great shawarma restaurants throughout the city from which to choose. Enjoy!

Favorite Dish: I like a combination plate of chicken and lamb shawarma, together with an assortment of vegetables and sauces. I'm not sure exactly what is included -- but it's all good!

Sunset Grill.: Breakfast anytime of the day!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: The Sunset Grill

In Toronto, you can enjoy a great breakfast anytime of the day at the Sunset Grill. I ate at the one located at the intersection of Yonge & Richmond -- but there are many scattered throughout the city.

Favorite Dish: Try the delicious peameal bacon! (aka Canadian bacon in the States)

Tim Horton's: Toronto residents love their coffee!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: Tim Horton's

Basic coffee and donuts shop -- more similar to Dunkin Donuts (for those in the States) than Starbucks. Didn't try any donuts, but the coffee was good. One warning -- when they are busy, they may just put cream and sugar in your coffee if you don't tell them your preference in advance.

    Favorite Dish: Coffee

Great Toronto tips, Bill. It's an excellent city for food, isn't it! I also enjoyed a hotdog in downtown Toronto, and several tasty lunches in the impressive Chinatown district. Happy travels, Jonathan.
