"Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord" Duisburg by BillNJ
Duisburg Travel Guide: 123 reviews and 346 photos
The Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord is a massive former industrial site, measuring 200 hectares, which has been transformed over a period of more than ten years into a multifunctional park. There is no admission fee -- the park is open free to the public. Tourists are allowed to explore the diffferent structures on their own. In the alternative, tourists can take one of the guided tours offered by the park for a fee.
In May 2008, I toured parts of the Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord park with VTer Daniela (mickybleck) who is a native of Essen. Although we weren't able to get to the Zollervein coal mine site in Essen because of road closures caused by a marathon race, Daniela was able to navigate the roads to this great site of German industrial culture in Duisburg.
At the park, Daniela helped translate many of the German language signs that explained the different structures and industrial processes. Also, since Daniela is a landscape ecologist by profession, she pointed out and described the plant and wildlife re-growth in the area. Thanks again Daniela for helping me learn more about this most fascinating place!
- Pros:Innovative park of a former industrial site
- Cons:Limited tourist information for non-German speakers
- In a nutshell:Fascinating experience of a former industrial site!

This park shows the young generation what industry was in the 20th century; it is interesting and has some beauty in a way.
Happy birthday, Bill and wishing you a nice day.
Quite possibly the oddest park I've heard of!
I have a friend who lives in Duisburg - like you, I was surprised at the successful transformation of the industrial site into an urban oasis!
I passed by Duisburg many times but came in only once to a clinic with my dogs. Thank you Bill for invitation to Landschaftspark! May be next time...
The Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord looks interesting and it was a good idea to turn it into a park.
that looks like a pretty interesting place.
