"I love New York!!!" Ms.R.'s Profile

Extended vacation to New York City (Day I)

So excited to be going to New York with my BH. We haven't been on an extended weekend together since April 06, and it is now October 06. 'Bout time. Well we will be staying with his Mom while we are there, but for the most part we have come for some much needed shopping and sightseeing. My BH is from New York, and is showing me something new each time we go, but of course some places and things no matter how many times you go, you must return and that is the case on this trip as well. I am dying to get to go to Canal Street for some more shopping, as the last time we didn't have alot of time to explore the area and I feel that I was cheated out of all the adventure in store for us there, but this time we have alot of time. We arrive around 8am and find a parking space and begin to head to the area with great anticipation. I myself am looking to buy gifts for Xmas for friends and family. I am especially looking to buy perfumes, small gift items, and of course some of those all elusive handbags that you must go high and low and near and far to find the best of the bargains and be able to hagle with those local Chinese ladies that stand on the corners and subway entrances and in a hush voice say handbags, and name the brands or either show you pictures of them and if you agree, you follow them and then you can come across some nice things to buy. Of course after buying all the gift items we can carry, we stop to get the famous NY pizza and a soda to split and off for more sightseeing and taking in the sights and sounds of the city. First day was going to be SHOP TIL YOU DROP, but lucky for us we had plenty of sleep before we drove up and comfortable shoes. the weather started out alittle breezy, but by mid-day it was warm enough to go without even a jacket. First day in the big city was exciting, and it seemed as though we had never left. Wanted to go to Century 21, but didn't dare try and venture there past 11am in the morning, so we decide to further our day and go to Broadway to see what we could find on that side of town. We do more looking than buying anything and then we wrap up our first day by early evening and go the my BH's Mom hse to rest and unwind and get ready for another exciting day tomorrow.

What to do today (Day II)

We wake up somewhat early and think what we want to do today. We get ready and decide that we will go back into the city and walk around somemore and see the sites. We think that we would like to go to see Ground Zero and maybe some other sites, such as the theater district and Madison Square Garden and so on. We get into the city fairly early and the traffic isn't so bad this morning. We find no parking space and decide to park on alot, but then drive around somemore and do find a parking space and grab it quickly and then begin our adventure for the day. We first wind up back down in the Manhattan area and 1st go to see Madison Square Garden. We take pictures on the steps leading to the entrance of the Garden and it is so windy this day. I look at the pictures that are taken of me by my BH and I laugh because they are just not to me picture perfect, but you know what they say, the pictures that you take that you aren't posing for are the best ones. We move on and walk around somemore and take in the sites and sounds and see all the people apparantly having a good day. We notice that almost on every corner in New York is a Star Bucks and almost all the people we saw had something from StarBucks. Whoo that was amazing, to see so many in one place. Back at home they are scattered here and there. We thought to ourselves that we wanted a Black bottomed muffin from there, but the funny thing is that each and everyone that we went into had none, not even one. So I guess that that idea went out the window fast and our craving for one would just have to wait.My BH decides that after we have done all the sightseeing on this side of town, he wants to head back to Canal Street area again and take in more of the sights and sounds. I was ok with it, as I was just excited to have seen the theater district, and the fancy stores, where the windows are all dressed up with the finest that money can buy. We get to see Trump Towers, Tower Records which is huge and takes up a whole block or so it seemed maybe two blocks. I saw so many tall bldgs as I looked up into the sky. The only thing that was cut short today was we didn't get to go to Ground Zero. We walked around so much that we didn't get the train to there and maybe another day. We have done do much more walking today, that I know that I have gotten in several miles and have tightened up my leg muscles. No cramps yet thou!!! As we get back to the Canal Street area, my BH decides that he wants to look for something in particular which I won't name b/c I am not sure if it should be mentioned in this forum. It is another k/off item and I am amazed by the fact that he would even think that he could even find it here in this area, but after several more hours of investigations, we do come across them and there is only one on view, and of course we find it in one of those underground burrows that we had tackeled yesterday. It seemed to be nice and it was I thought a reasonable price but he wanted several so we move on and after spending a total of (8) more hours in this little area we find no more of what he is searching for, so now it is getting late once again and another hours ride out of the city back to the family house and we decide it is now time to leave and get something to eat that we can buy from a carryout and take in to eat, so we decide on burgers and fries, which was quick and familiar. We go in and all eat and then get ready to retire for the evening. We unwind by watching some tv, talking and catching up on old times and looking at old photo albums. After several more hours of this, we decide it is time to go to bed and get up and plan our day for the third of what is to be next to our last day in New York City.

Let's Sleep in late!!!!!! ( Day III)

This morning we decide to wake up late and not get such an early start as I need to run some errands around the area of town that we are in for my BH Mother. So I get the list of things needed at the food store and off I go to the store. Mind you it is Sunday afternoon and while I am out I decide to go to this big Dollar Store and I am in there I know (1) hour or more. It is so big in there and they had so many things that we don't have here in Md. I was so excited and bought enough things that I thought would last us until our next trip there, maybe before Xmas. After that I go to a Thrift Store that I had seen when we first got in NY (upstate) and decided to spend another (hr.) looking around in there. I saw lots of things that I liked, but bought nothing b/c they didn't take ccards in there. Can you believe that? Well that was a sign that I didn't need to buy anything from there because of the fact that you had to pay in cash only and no returns or exchanges on anything. That is alittle hard to take, so I went on my merry way. I got in the car and then went back to the house with the groceries and just chilled the rest of the evening. I bought dinner to cook so we could all sit down for a home cooked meal and enjoy the rest of the evening with my BH Mom. I am sure that she really appreciated the fact that we gave her a whole day of us being there with her. So we stayed in and watched tv and talked and napped and laid around and just didn't do to much more of anything. My BH just stayed in and watched tv the entire day for which he really enjoyed himself b/c the football games were on all day long. By the time I got back in there he was in heaven and was just laid back and getting caught up on his much needed rest. Well thinking that we are going to be going back home tomorrow and am told that we are going to be staying over another day and that puts a big smile on my face. Well time to go to bed now and get ready for the last big day tomorrow and I can't wait.

Last Day in New York (Day IV)

Well we get up and make sure that we have all of our things packed and together to get ready to leave. We are taking all of our things as we know that we won't be coming back and after whatever we decide to do today, we will be heading home for good until the next time we decide to visit. We say our good byes, and take rememberance pictures and off we go to the city for one last time. Today we run into alittle scare. We realize that it is Columbus Day and is a holiday but we don't understand the parking situation for this day. We read the signs and ask the locals, but get no clear and definative answer to weather or not we can park in a certain area. It was shocking to me that no one could tell us, however we decided to park in the area as we read the street signs and said to move by 12:30pm for street cleaning. We go and run around for 3 hours and come back and finally check out the signs and was told that we could safely park in that spot all day. We have smiles on our faces, b/c the parking spot is just a few blocks from where we want to be. After knowing this we decide to go and do somemore sightseeing and take pictures of the evening sites. We see the locals enjoying the evening and we are as well, just walking around different parts of Soho, The Village and so on. It was just great. The weather was good and we just had on light jackets . We get pretzels from the street vendors and peanuts . We had to try and experience that as well. We didn't get to try a New York hot dog though, but the other things that we had to eat were great. We don't do to much else this last day but take in the sites and sounds and then we head for home, should be there by no later than 10:30pm and in store for us will be a good nites sleep and dreams of our 4 wonderful days in the Big City.
