Working in Emirates of Abu Dhabi I have been working in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi since end January 2007. I arrived in the middle of the night and was whisked away into the desert to a place called Ruwais, 250km southwest of Abu Dhabi city. This is where I have been spending the past few months. Yes... this is basically in the middle of the desert far from any form of city life or civilization! Life in Ruwais is boring. This is basically an oil town supplying the wealth of Abu Dhabi. Very technical place with no entertainment available except for the idiot box in your room. Nevertheless this is the place I'll have to call home for a couple of months. It is definitely a peaceful and quiet place with nothing much to do but work. |
Abu Dhabi City Abu Dhabi city itself is a calm and peaceful place. The city is very neat and clean. Everything seems orderly (except if a sandstorm strikes!) It lacks much tourist attractions but is still a nice place to hang out for a weekend especially if you've been working in the desert for weeks! It's not really a bustling city but it is busy and yet not chaotic. It is very laidback here, typical Arabian city. The Corniche is a beautiful seaside park to enjoy a weekend with family and friends. Nice place to jog & picnic. Abu Dhabi is a city of gardens and you would be able to find many parks and gardens built by the municipality for the benefit of its residents. For tourists, this would be a great place to snap some memorable pictures. After all, how often you can find an abundance of colorful flowers in the Middle East? The two big shopping centers here are the Marina Mall and Abu Dhabi Mall. Both are good places to shop and dine. Nice place to hang out and chill out. Nothing magnificent but fully functional and serves the purpose! |
