Two things come to mind when I think of Al Ain – oasis and roundabouts! First and foremost, this is the premier oasis town of the U.A.E. This is the home of the famous Al Ain oasis bottled water which is marketed all over the region. The oasis in the middle of the city is a huge expanse of natural green area which is so hard to come across elsewhere in the U.A.E. Roundabouts? Well – I’ve never seen so many roundabouts in one town before. There must be hundreds of them all over this fourth-largest town in U.A.E. There is an obsession for it and it takes some guts to drive into one what with the mad drivers they have around here. |
| | The city is green and I do mean quite natural green in many places. The oasis town it is called is not a hoax! But of course, when I talk of green it’s still no way as green as other tropical countries like Malaysia. Nevertheless, the greens give some respite from the boredom of sand. As I drive from Abu Dhabi, one more thing that strikes me is the sand dunes on both sides of the highway. The beautiful sand dunes are eye-catching and no wonder this is a site for many sand dune bashers! The colour of the dunes also takes on a slight orange shade compared to the usual brown. The dunes look marvellous when seen from the peak of Jebel Hafeet. |
