Singapore is a direct stopover on the way from Australia to Europe. I stopped over in 1995 and ended up living there for a few years. However, most people only stay a day or two - you can even do a two hour bus tour and see a high percentage of the key attractions. It has a very tropical climate, so make sure you get your body into shape before you come here, as you will want to wear as few clothes as possible. But do not go totally nude, as Singapore has a reputation for being a "nanny state", with lots of rules and fines. If you concentrate on the "Big Brother" aspect of this city, you tend to miss out on the rich cultural side of this modern city that sits in one of the most important crossroads in the world. In Asia, Singapore is quite unique, as most people speak english, and you can get very close to many different cultures in one day, including several Chinese clans, Indian, Malay and Western.
