Malaysia X-File

by Gnome - last update: Jun 11, 2000

Malaysia is an amazing land of contrast, where you can see some fantastic things, but it is essential that you do your homework and know what you are getting yourself into. Unfortunately, parts of Malaysia are horribly over developed - but there are some fantastic places to visit as well. Throughout the country, you can find some of the world's most hot n spicy food, and if you are an adventurous eater, there is always something new to try.

Malaysia is split into two parts of either side of the South China Sea, and each side is very different. Most of the people live on the western side, next to Singapore. And on the western side most people live on the western coast. So if you are looking for quiet places where you can see some of the world's most beautiful tropical environments, dont "Go West", as you will mainly find lots of overcrowded polluted cities and lots of traffic - with some exceptions of course. The East Coast of West Malaysia has fantastic islands and beaches, while East Malaysia is actually on Borneo Island - so this is a land of incredible rainforests and less people. My favourite parts of Malaysia are all on the East side, as the locals have not bulldozed the rainforest to make way for apartments and electronics factories (yet!!).
