Since visiting Taiwan, I now think that it is very under-rated as a tourist destination. If you are looking for a place where you want to experience a unique culture, but you do not want the hassles of an undeveloped country, it could be a good alternative for a holiday. The big challenge in Taiwan is the language, but the people are very friendly.

I now have many fond memories of Taiwan - it is a place that will leave lots of impressions on you, but it is not for the faint hearted. The traffic and heat of Taipei can be almost unbearable - but Taipei kind of grew on me after a while - I would go back anyday. And of course, there is the food - people in Hong Kong may disagree, but Taipei has the best Chinese food I have tasted - combined with good friendly service.
