"Ta'izz" Ta`izz by TheLongTone
Ta`izz Travel Guide: 13 reviews and 35 photos
Like so many places I visited in Yemen, I wasn't here long enough to gain anything but the most fleeting impression of Ta'izz. It's now a big city, and my twenty or so hours there were only enough to visit the spactacular citadel which dominates the town and a cursory exploration of the old quarter.
It's had two turns at being the capital of the country: once under the Rasulid dynasty in the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries and again, briefly, under Imam Ahmed, the lastimam to rule the country, from 1948 until 1962. His rule is commemorated in a museum which I didn't have time to visit. It's good to have something to go back for, but sometimes it gets ridiculous.

enjoying the tour thanks.
was just having a look through my Middle East travel planner and found a couple of your Yemen tips in it so having a refresher - how amazing to have been to Yemen...each time it seems to sound okay to go warnings appear again not to go! Off to Turkey again after a group tour there 14 years ago so am sort of looking forward to it but do wish now we were going to Israel or Jordan!...or Yemen if it was safe...and so sad about the state Syria is in - I was going to go 2 years ago for a springflower visit to there, Jordan and Israel...how are you these days, haven't seen you here on VT much!?
This place looks unusual with its white architecture as opposed to the usual mud brick.
