Panabo Visit

About an hour after leaving our hotel in Davao, after a relatively slow ride along the coast north of Davao, we arrive in Panabo. This community is growing and is larger than the last time we visited in 2004. There were new buildings, improvements on existing ones and new homes.

Many of my wife's family live in or near Panabo. AS we turned off the main road on to the gravel road that leads to their home I could see a large number of people 200 yards ahead at her parents home. They were waiting to see us, Josh in particular!

Banana Leaves

I am facinated with the beauty of both the banana tree and the coconut tree. Most people call them palm trees not realizing they are diffrent. One morning after we got up I took a short walk from my in-laws house. Actually behind their house is a huge banana plantation, but growing on a vacant lot near their house are many other banana trees.

I'm not real tall, only 5'7", but you can see from this leaf of the banana tree how big it is. It almost looks like a surf board. Surfs up!

Banana Tree Flowers

As the banana tree begins to grow the fruit it flowers. The fruit grows upward, that is the tip or pointed part of the banana grows upward and the part where the stem is loated is at the bottom. These flowers are very beautiful and big.
