Beautiful Buenos Aires

by kalanialoha - last update: Nov 7, 2006

One of the many cool boutiques

Palermo Soho - my favorite part of the city

Palermo Soho definitely reminds me of New York's SOHO district.

Very cool and trendy boutiques, bars, hotels, and restaurants. A much younger, hipper crowd than Recoleta. :)

Walking around the neighborhood, you never know what you'll find. So many hidden treasures on little side streets.

Recoleta...refined elegance

The first part of my stay was in Recoleta. Reminiscent of the Upper East Side of Manhattan or parts of Paris...very refined and elegant.

Very safe area to walk around in, beautiful hotels and apartment buildings, luxury shopping, and of course, the famous Recoleta Cemetry...final resting place of Eva Peron.

The green plazas in this part of town just add to the ambiance.

Key shopping centers are Patio Bullrich and Buenos Aires Design Center - perfect for whiling away the hours when it's raining. :)
Plaza Int. Alvear

Puerto Madero

Puerto Madero feels like a totally different part of the city. A mix of modern office buildings, hotels, and converted red brick warehouses, near the docks and waterfront. Great restaurants and shops, along with the famous Puenta de la Mujer sculptural walkway, make this a fun area to hang out in.

It's amazing to see the explosive growth in this area of the city. Prices are definitely higher here than in other barrios.

Pros:"Each barrio is so different, very affordable and pretty city"
Cons:"Unpredictable weather, tourists can be taken advantage of"
In A Nutshell:"More than just tango and design!"
