Our Search for Paradise in Baja

Brad and I have live in Arizona and had spoken about retiring abroad. As we started to think seriously about investing for retirement, we went searching for the perfect place, and our requirements were many. We wanted a place with beautiful sunsets, white sandy beaches, golf courses, restaurants, pools and a recreation center where we felt like we were part of a community.. And we are not that close to retirement, but felt that if we did not at least make some inquiries we might miss the boat.

Well, Hawaii and San Diego were among our choices, but the price of those areas were way out of reach. We were frequent visitors to Rocky point, but the communities there did not provide the amenities we were seeking and we found that we were too late, that prices were already out of reach there as well.

Then by chance we found the El Dorado Ranch project, located 7 miles north of the fishing town of San Felipe and 120 miles, or about 1 1/2 hours south of the US/Mexico border at Calexico and Mexicali.

This was NOT one of those time-share deals where you get a week a year for a ridiculous amount of money. That was not what we wanted!
If we decided to buy land in the community, we could hold it as an investment or build our dream vacation or retirement home at our leisure. They could even supply a builder, or we could use our own adhering to the CC&Rs enforced to maintain and enhance the overall development. And electric is already there, wow. We were excited.

The El Dorado Ranch development project is American owned. The theme is centered on the preservation of the natural habitat. It combines the best of seaside and desert living. It is available to community residents and their guests. White sandy beaches, tennis, pools, equestrian trails, fishing, an 18-hole desert golf course and clubhouse, restaurants, and more amenities. And San Felipe's new international airport is 15 minutes away. Lots offer both ocean and mountain views as the natural terrain slopes 3 to 4 % away from the Sea of Cortez.

We joined these folks on a Wednesday night for dinner to hear more about the community. We found out that home sites were affordable with financing available if we needed it. There was absolutely no pressure. If we like what we saw and heard, we could sign up for a weekend trip to see the development.

El Dorado Ranch is about 5 1/2 hours from Phoenix through Interstates 8 and 10 and Mexican Highway 5. The bus departed at 8am on a Saturday morning and we were back home Sunday evening. What we liked so much about San Felipe and El Dorado Ranch was the energy, the views from our home site and the warm waters of the Sea of Cortez. It was truly more than we expected.

Joining the El Dorado Team

We are SO impressed with the Ranch that we decided to get involved with the project. We felt should share our dream to own a little piece of heaven, a place by the sea with others.
