| | Morning AGAIN........ This journey like most was to be unforgetable....for many reasons..as was this sunrise....
I had met up with my Travel brother....in fact my cousin that lives in Vancouver...I was living in Ottawa....and we met at the airport in Mexico City where we connected with a flight to Acapulco.
When we arrived in Acapulco...we went straight to one of the bus stations for transit further south to Puerto Escondido and just an hour and a bit further South,to some small beachside towns called Mazunte ,San Augustinio and Zipolite..
This is the first real morniing that we had settled in...and even that isnt quite accuracte...this picture was possible because of a series of events that caused us to be locked out of the room on our first night. We took turns and eventually we crashed on a hammock and I grabbed a towel and passed out on the ceramic floor of our balcony.
We had travelled all night by bus...and ended up going straight to the hotel where we had reserved a room for the first two nights. The first things that happened was a change of clothes....and back down the many steps to the beach....I was first into the water....and when I arrived I threw my towel onto the beach....the room key onto the towel....and I was gone...racing into the Ocean for some much needed relief. We had been up for 24 hours plus....and including seven hours on a freezing rickity old bus.. Kevin was far behind me and we both watched ...he from the top of the beach...and I from just outside of where the waves were breaking....a huge wave had washed up far enough onto the beach to soak my towel...and apparently it even took the key when it washed back out...
We kind of bantered back and forth once I got back onto the beach....and I DECIDED that I would go upstairs to the Hotel Office for another key later on that afternoon....we both ended up passing out and sleeping on the beach for a few hours...
Whe we woke up and made the trek for the replacement key....the office was CLOSED...until the next morning..and we BOTH decided that we didnt want to break into the room to gain access... so we both learned a pretty interesting lesson about the Pacific Ocean...day one..I slept on the floor....buddy slept in the hammock.
BEWARE of the BIG wave.....and don't put your room key where you won't find it again... |
Peace...Serenity... We would have to walk by this lovely setting on mornings when we made the trek to this great little breakfast joint that we discovered....imagine....after walking by this we had to endure a plate of pancakes surrounded by fresh pineapple, mango, banana, and melon all topped off with dollops of yummy honey!!
When we were finnished breakfast we would amble back towards San Augustinio where we liked the beach the best...it was different than the other kilometres of beach...ok ok...in fact we had a great little spot with drinks and comfy chairs that BECAME our favourite spot... | | | Beachside....San Augustionio,Oaxaca,Mexico |

| | Coming or Going...? Peace and Natural Beauty. If you LOVE sunshine and beach...and WILD surf....THIS is a destination for you....we hung out here in March of 2000..and spent two weeks doing a little exploring and lots of lounging around...we passed through Acapulco...spent five hours there...and Puerto Escondido where we spent maybe eight hours waiting for a bus back North to Acapulco to catch our flights North..
The region of Mexico where we spent our time is not the most developed commercialy however that will likely change...it is only a short drive South of Puerto Escondido or the same drive time but North of Huatulco.
THis is NOT a highly developed area....There wasnt much of a nightlife although it has likely grown to some degree. It was pretty low key and most ammenities were kind of basic.
The accomodations that we used was a small hotel...in San Augustinio...a small town between Mazunte and Zipolite...all of these small towns close to Puerto Angel.. The hotel was called Posada Dona Sol....further on you can see some pics of the place and read about the ammenities... It was an AMAZING experience and the owners,Jeff and Anna were the best Host and Hostess I've ever come across anywhere! |
