I had read here that the driving around here was not for the weak hearted!Driving with Angel proved the theory correct! I had to do a double take when I saw this guy at the wheel of the car just outside Union Station when I myself was "parked" on a concrete barrier sipping a coffee...
OK ok ok.....the TRUTH of the matter was that I was in fact hanging around drinking a coffee on a concrete barrier outside of Union Station...I had been walking a fair bit the past few days and I decided to take a break...and I LOVE watching people...I just happened to see DOG waiting for someone to arrive at the Train station...couldnt pass it up...a "light" moment in a magnificent city.
This was my first time in the DC area of the USA....and I must say that my impressions were mostly positive...most people that I encountered were easy to talk with...MOST people....not all....but the majority...and I found almost everbody that I encountered to be courteous and respectful...something that I found to be quite refreshing.
The Memorials, the Institutions, the buildings....I found it all quite impressive and GRAND...a truly beautiful city.
The intent of my mini vacation was to see the many sights of Washington and visit when I could with a friend that is studying at a university in the DC area.
The time that I was able to share with friends here was awsome...dinner with Angel and Margaret,a quick trip via the Metro to pick up Angel where she lives in Rockville,Md. and a road trip to Harpers Ferry in Western Virginia, all were memorable times !
Add to this two days in and around the Mall area visiting some important Memorials and Institutions and a couple of solemn hours paying my Respects at Arlington National Cemetery,my time in DC was a great experience and one that I will try to share a little of with you all.
Over the next little while I will build some pages here and share with you what it was,my mini vacation to Washington,D.C.
The first afternoon that I was in town....my friend Angel came to my B&B and we took off towards Arlington and Pentagon City to meet with a mutual friend Margaret who was in town at the same time that I was....unfortunately this was the only time that I got to see Margaret because she was in town for business...and I was there strictly for sightseeing...the three of us hooked up...Angel drove...Im happy that she's called Angel... : o ] Im NOT a really great passenger.. We all shared dinner together and walked around afterwards....we ended up having a rather long chat with a Guard at one of the entrances to the DEA offices while we were looking for somewhere to walk around after dinner....we ended up going around the block and ended up at a Starbucks...
Along the way to meet with Margaret, Angel and I ended up in the Mall area and spent a little time visiting the Vietnam War Memorial Wall and the Lincoln Memorial....my first "sights" of the American capital city.
This is a snap of Angel on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial after reading the panels inside...I think she's happy!
OK not the most marvelous dining in DC Im sure....but it was easy and fast....and none of us were dressed for dinner at the Ritz...where Margaret was staying...we had some fun and Greggor's adventure in DC was off to a good start!
More coming soon....
- Pros:Impressive architecture and magnificent Monuments.
- Cons:Tourist traps everywhere...like what else would I expect ?
- In a nutshell:All in all a fun adventure in America's capital city.

nice to see you got to see a lot of Washington. you should see our traffic when there is the threat of snow!!!!
Very glad you all were able to visit. So much to see and do there. The memorial alone take a lot of time, much less the museums. You made some great choices to see. I so enjoyed the Metro. Excellent way to get around there. Nice page!
Your photos and tips provided me a great trip down memory lane..thanks! :-) Ann, TS
Good presentation and pictures. It has been 15 years since being there, and need to see more. A trip is being planned soon. We just returned from warm Phoenix, Arizona, a change for us.
I like the look of that B&B.
Nice tips and photos. If I went there, I would have to visit Arlington too, sounds so interesting!
I love your pictures :)
Another capital with many interesting things to do, unlike my capital Brasilia which I do not like!
