"McCormick's Creek State Park" McCormicks Creek State Park by Toughluck

Hardwood Forests

McCormick's Creek State Park was the states 1st park in 1916. From this site, grew the extensive park system in Indiana. The location was a naturally restful place, with undisturbed woods and running water. Today, you can visit and still enjoy the solitude and restorative air of the park. Walk through the hardwood forest, hike up the creek, deep in the shadows of the towering treesa and valley walls. Traverse the sinkhole plains, listening for the Pileated Woodpeckers and smaller woodland birds. Crawl through Wolf Cave, coming out at the Twin Bridges. There is plenty to keep you busy, or to let you relax.

The Park offers a variety of comfort options. There are family cabins, where your family can set up housekeeping and come and go at your leisure. The road is for cabin residents only and the kids can play without you having to worry. The campground is at the far north end of the park, set among the karst sinkholes. Busy at times, the aroma of wood smoke and meals cooking pervade the area. You'll find that you can relax quietly alone, you make new friends. Trails lead to the nature center and the caves. For those desiring more creature comforts, try the Canyon Inn. Located near the entrance, the rooms are comfortable, the building cozy and the dinning room offers a variety of choices at every meal. Bloomington is only 18 miles away and can be used as a base camp for visiting this section of Indiana, including McCormick's Creek. The variation of choices is significant and will fit most any taste and budget.
