Most people see Columbia City as a strip mall along US 30. The main commerical district as in many small towns has moved from downtown to the main road through or near town. In this case, it's out on US 30. You'll find the chain stores, including Walmart, plus gas stations and a variety of restaurants. If you take the time, you can find a few interesting places in town or nearby to give you a feel for the history of the area.

History is often thought of as boring. And the way it is often taught, it really is boring. But, remember, your life is a part of history. Well, the history that will be written some years in the future. Think about how events have affected you. Did the recession leave you an affected? or did you lose your job? Was the property tax change in the state house nothing, or did you struggle to pay taxes for a few years? When you read about Indians being moved, or towns being settle, think about what that would mean if your were one of those involved. Now that's not boring history; it's a story, Yes, as Prof Tom Coakley once told me, its 'His' story (or Her story). We need to tell it that way.
