There is a lot of wildlife to see in the area.

Manatee tour is, of course, mandatory for anyone who can swim. Aligators can be seen from boat at the Homosassa Visitors Center which also has (a lot of) birds, Florida Panthers, a two-headed turtle, manatees, and an underwater observatory which is actually quite interesting. The food is also inexpensive at the little building following the boat ride.

There are some companies offering other tours like air boat rides, gulf dinner cruises, and sea fishing if someone wishes to do those things.

There is a guide to the Florida bird trail if one is a bird watcher. The guide lists approxiamate dates and species found in particularly good birding areas in year's past.

Anoles are everywhere. You will see them at hotels, businesses, just about everywhere.

Behind Riverside Resort is a small island with monkeys. It is not accessbile by foot or boat, but easily viewable from land.

The zoo is nearby Tampa is a good interactive zoo. It's not big, it's a little overpriced, but heck you are only going to go there so many times in one lifetime as a tourist so who cares... it's pretty interesting.

These are really quite small as far as towns go. However, one can obtain most things needed from Walmart, Big K, or one of the local biz's. There is no shortage of places to rent boats/equipment or purchase basic life supplies.

There are several bars and restaruants that offer kareoke in the evening. It would seem that this is the favored form of nightlife for locals, although I did not peek in to find out if anyone was actually in those places. As far as clubs or booming nightlife, I'm not sure if that really exists. Suggest asking a local.
