Do not expect starred hotels in Purworejo, there are only so-called
Melati hotels. Of these a tourist folder lists ten. We did not check out all of them. A friend living in Purworejo recommended Hotel Ganesha, and we found it satisfactory.
In
Melati hotels the bathroom and plumbing are often deficient, here the bathroom was at least clean. We got a VIP room with hot water (Rp 175,000) for the price of one without hot water (Rp 145,000), because the hot water was 'out of order'. We found that this did not mean that there was no hot water, on the contrary, the shower head connected to an electric boiler delivered scalding hot water without a mixing tap being available to mix it with cold water.
But the bed was good, and all in all we think we got good value for money, especially with the tea and coffee service.
Unique Qualities: Very friendly service, and clean: no cockroaches. The price includes materials for making tea and coffee twice a day: at daybreak and in the afternoon, as well as a breakfast of
nasi goreng with a fried egg.
