WELCOME TO MY TARRAGONA'S PAGE

Tarragona
Tarraco was founded as a militar base of the roman legions in Hispania. By the year 45 bC, when Tarraco was already the capital of Hispania Citerior, Julius Caesar gave it the status of roman colonia with the name of Colonia Iulia Urbs Triumphalis Tarraconensis. Romans stayed in Tarraco for 6 centuries and left in the city very important evidences like the walls, the forum, the circus, the theatre... In 2000 Unesco declared all this archaeological ensemble part of its world heritage list
Apart from the roman remains in Tarragona you will find some interesting things from medieval period (like the Cathedral, chapels, houses of the nobility) and modern times (the Town Hall, some fortifications) too
Tarragona Walls

The Walls of Tarragona

The roman walls of Tarragona are well known . They were built at the end of the IIIcentury bC because of Second Punic War and were lengthened during the IIcentury bC. During your visit of the roman walls you will see three roman towers (Arquebisbe Tower, Minerva Tower and Seminari Tower), some roman doors and other military constructions from the XVII century like el Fortí Negre o el Cos de Guàrdia where you will find a little exposition about the evolution of the fortifications in Tarragona

The Archaeological Museum of Tarragona

Founded during the first half of XIX this is the most ancient museum of Archaeology in Calonia. The historic importance of Tarraco, capital of Hispania Citerior, has provided a rich collection to the museum. Apart from an introduction video of Tarraco and its permanent collection (the mosaics are great) you will find interesting itinerary expositions too.
