An interesting place with lots to do...... | Peoples Commitee (Hotel de Ville) and Ho Chi Minh |
This was our first stop in Vietnam and as such was a major shock. I couldn't capture on my camera the volume of traffic that is constantly on the move in this city. 6 million people, most of them on motorbikes and no pedestrian crossings! It does seem to be organsied chaos though, as we didn't see any accidents while we were there. Amazing and seductive, Saigon beats to a tune of honking horns, all day & all night. Saigon was offically renamed Ho Chi Minh City in 1975. It is the largest city in Vietnam and of course is still growing fast! |
| | Notre Dame Cathedral Built between 1877 and 1883. A beautiful red-brick church with two 40 metre high spires. They can be seen almost anywhere in Saigon. The bricks came from Marseilles and the stained glass windows from Chartres. Almost 10% of the population of Vietnam is catholic. This is a lovely church. |
Let's eat! One of many examples of how funny things can be when mis-spelt! | | |

lindyz Fri Jun 12, 2009 05:27 UTC We ate lots of Pho Soup as well, about $2AUD per bowl at Pho24 I think it was called - like a chain of Pho restaurants, equivalent to our Maccas I guess! I thoroughly agree with your "crossing road" tip!!! | pchamlis Mon May 25, 2009 19:29 UTC Looks like you and me are both on the "Bill Clinton Cuilinary Tour". We ate at a place that Bubba frequented in New Delhi back in October. (The Bukhara) Nice page. | AlbuqRay Thu May 21, 2009 17:46 UTC Okay, where was the traffic worse... Ho Chi Minh City or Phnom Penh? I felt lucky to survive each time I crossed the street in Phnom Penh. | mvtouring Mon Apr 20, 2009 15:58 UTC Stunning page, Vietnam is still on my wish list ;-) |
