| | Minas El-Tirith in Geratal-Mittelerde? Celtic for "Willkommen auf der Elgersburg in Thüringen!" or "Welcome to Elgersburg in Thurigen".
On 06 May, 2007 I was driving along the A71 to visit Erfurt and Weimar. After passing through the tunnels, I spotted a small Schloss/castle from the autobahn sticking up like a sore thumb against the mountain. I was determined to visit this Schloss on my return later that afternoon. Here is a street scene of a local horse back riding. People in Ilmenau were very congenial!
Elgersburg was for a long time a spa or "Kurort". |
Schloss Elgersburg This Schloss was seen so clearly from the autobahn but hard to locate from the street. You definitely need a car to get here. You can barely make out the Schloss through the trees from the street below in town. | | |

hunterV Thu Nov 27, 2008 12:36 UTC Hi, Michael! It was a nice trip! I like to visit such places! | King_Golo Fri May 25, 2007 14:01 UTC Hi there, a suitable translation would be: "Since 1228, a monk stone stood here as a border stone of Mönchheide" Mönch means monk, but I have no idea if a Mönchstein is only a stone made by monks or some fixed term. |
