Music and Wine

Latour de France is a vibrant village, quite large as Pyrennean villages go, surrounded by the remains of it's defense walls. Like neighbouring Rasigueres, it is famous for it's music festivals and it's rose wine, something of a speciality in this part of France. It's most famous wine is La Pavillon des Remparts which is allowed to include "Villages" in it's label.

Originally the first village in France it is steeped in history.

Each year a music festival is held. The Mancunian-Manxman conductor and artistic director of the Latour Festival is John Bethell. The main venue is the village church – Notre-Dame des Anges and, since 1999, the Théâtre de Verdure Gilbert Pelissier – an outdoor venue built especially for the Festival - and is attended from singers from many countries but the Brits are the biggest participants. The 2007 Festival will take place from 22nd to 26th July and this year will include a performance of Haydn's Creation.
