"Beautiful, just watch out for the locals..." Karakol by Julsus

The scenery

I was there in the middle of summer, the temperature can vary between about 0 and 30 celcius!! The locals are ok, just watch out for the guy at the hotel who will make you pay extra just to visit the place (about 50 yuan). If you get past the usual hassles with the locals trying to bargain with you for everything, you will wake up one morning and see the lake and the mountain in all its glory. (see attached photo). It's incredible.

A very long way up!

This is just below the snow-line at the base camp of Mustagh ata. You can see a village at 16000 feet. Why the kyrghyz want to live up this high is anyones guess. It smells like *** (The cookers are all powered by Yak dung), but this pales into insignifigance when you compare it to the scenery.
