The region of Lago di Orta (Lake of Orta) in the Piemont (Italy) is one of my favorite spots for mountain biking. There are hunders of trails to bike up and down and there is always a beautiful scenerey around you.
I have visited the region quite often in the past and (almost) each time biked up Monte Mottarone. It's just worth it because of the downhill trails on its south face. Quite easy to go up (street) and awsome to go down!
