  • Beware of people attempting to clean your car windows while at stop lights. These so called 'squeege kids' can jump out in front of your car suddenly. If you aren't interested, just wave them off. Otherwise the standard is to give them a couple of dollars for their effort. Mostly they are harmless.

  • Winter is not always the greatest time to visit. See the photo! Although generally the winters here are better than elsewhere in Eastern Canada (especially Montreal and Ottawa!) Temperatures average in the -5 C for days in January and Feburary, but occasionally can reach -40 C with the wind factor. The average snowfall for Toronto is probably only 5 cm or so at a time, but in 1999 almost 40 cm fell on the downtown area in a 24 hr period. Because of congestion of traffic, transit vehicles and parked cars, the army had to be called in by then Mayor Mel Lastman to clear the snow. Thus Toronto became the laughing stock of the country!
