Imbassai is a quiet pretty village with a population of around 1.000 people, located in Linha Verde's (Green Line) - Area of Environmental Protection, 65 km north of Salvador. Sand dunes and the Imbassaí river, which runs parallel to the beach, separate the village from the beach. Imbassaí means 'path of the river' in the language of the Tupi Indians. It is in Imbassaí that the river finds its way to the ocean.
On the sandbar, where the river meets the ocean, you find a couple of small palm-roofed beach bars selling cold drinks and fried fish, and choose between a bath in either the ocean or the river. In addition to endless of tropical beaches of Imbassaí and the natural beauty of the region, there are plenty of possibilities for sport activities, such as surfing, diving, kayaking, horse riding and fishing.
If you are looking for a peaceful holiday destination in a beautiful natural setting, you'll find a paradise here :)

Izgleda, da je posebno dozivetje zajtrk z majhnimi primati, a celotne lepote idilicnih krajev ne gre prezreti. V resnici je lahko srecen clovek, ki jih nekega dne obisce in se tam prepoji z vzdusjem. Narava okrog in okrog.
Mira, that's a great story about your pousada experience. With winter coming on, Estado da Bahia is looking extremely tempting to me!! Loved your tips on this tropical destination, it sounds so inviting.
This indeed looks like paradise on earth-complete with beaches, turtle eggs, friendly hosts and great food. The beaches are simply beautiful, and deserted, the way I prefer it.I would love to visit this place! Thanks, Mira Had another visit here- stunning.
one more place to consider on my way north from Salvador. Well done Mira!
You stayed at a very nice place here! They are friendly people living in such a nice place - I would love to see the Imbassaí river -- and deserted beaches are always a plus! Marmoset's cute! Norman :)
Thanks Mira for transporting me to some tropical beaches :) I suppose we are in agreement on the wonders of just walking a loney beach!
Great that you still keep in touch with the owners of that pousada, and even sent them the only Portuguese translation of a book of Slovenian authors. By the way, I was the first one to look at your beautiful new sunset and flower travelogues.
The morning walk along the beach for 10 km sounds lovely and the sunset is beautiful!
