Ilha Verde

São Miguel lies in the eastern group of islands. It is the largest island of the Azores, 65 km long and 16 km wide, and full of natural beauty. Although all the islands are green, Saõ Miguel is known as the
Ilha Verde, Green Island. It has majestic and diverse scenery, from beautiful lakes, small bays with sandy beaches to high cliffs, and a mountain area with the highest point Pico da Vara at 1105m and century-old architecture. Ponta Delgada, the capital of Saõ Miguel, is an enjoyable place to explore as well.

Most famous attractions are the two lakes of Sete Cidades, one green and the other blue. Well worth visiting is also Lagoa das Furnas, the area with bubbling hot volcanic mud, hot springs and small geysers. Nordeste is a region not often visited by tourists, which has a breathtaking coast, best viewed from the several beautiful miradouros (viewpoints) and picnic areas. As for the towns, I found Vila Franca do Campo (first Sao Miguel's capital) and Ribera Grande lovely places to wander around, along the many charming small towns and villages all around the island.

Visited all the islands. Sao Miguel is a beautiful island; although, the only downfall is the crime in the capital, that being pick-pocketing and car break-ins, so do not leave anything in plain sight. Food was wonderful and fresh. Will definitely visit Madeira Island again due to consistent good weather and really no crime to worry about.

Mira, há duas fábricas de queijadas da Vila, sendo uma delas localizada nos Arrifes. Ambos os proprietários são da Vila Franca. Lep pozdrav,

I've read lots of your pages about beautiful Brazilian islands, and now a Portuguese one. Fantastic scenery, fine restaurants and interesting things to do, like touring the pineapple and tea plantations and the pottery factory.

Ah, Mira, I'm salivating from all these. So curious about lapas and cracas especially, and how they prepare them, would want arroz de lapas right now. With all these, who would want sex in the Azores? Hehe. Thanks.

Fast becoming the #1 foodie on VT. You find the "real" food and talk about it with passion. I want to go just to eat there but then on top of that you presented a stunning natural beauty. Worth the wait.
