Inspiration for Duino Elegies

It was a nice sunny spring day and we were thinking about making a day trip to the coast. But where to, Croatia, Slovenia or Italy? After a short consideration we decided to go to Duino, a little Italian coastal town, less than 1,5 hours drive from Ljubljana. We were going to walk the Rilke path, a footpath that leads above the sea from Duino to Sistiana and offers breathtaking views. One of the many famous guests of Duino Castle was the Prage-born poet Rainer Maria Rilke, who found the inspiration for Duino Elegies during his stay here.

Ni idealnejse lokacije za postavitev gradu... visoko nad morjem na skali, zraven pa se bozanska narava in siroki pogledi v neskoncnost - brez dvoma navdihujoce. Fino se bi bilo sprehoditi, navsezadnje ni niti predalec.

Did the walk but my tips aren't a patch on yours. Missed the cave also. I'm heading back to Italy next month. Cheers, Ian

I always love a good walk along coastlines and your views in this page are spectacular, especially with Castello di Duino and Baia di Sistiana thrown into the mix!
