Capital de la Salsa

Cali is the capital of the department Valle del Cauca. With a population of nearly 2,5 million inhabitants, it is the third largest city in the country (after Bogotá and Medellin). Cali is a bustling city with a tropical climate and pleasant atmosphere. Evening breeze will cool you off in time for the party. Cali is known as the capital of rumba, street partying, dancing and salsa. It's famous throughout Latin America for Colombia's biggest festival, the Feria de Cali. It runs from Christmas to New Year.

Cali is one of the major economic and industrial centres of the country. It has a well preserved historical centre. Plaza de Caycedo is centrally located and surrounded by historic and modern buildings and also close to many historical churches. The city is rich in parks, squares and museums. In the Christmas time there are beautiful lights all along the Río Cali. The old, bohemian neighbourhood of San Antonio is a lovely area with arty cafés, shops and restaurants lining picturesque colonial streets. It is on a hill, and at the top you'll find a park and San Antonio church with fantastic view of the city. And for party lovers, Juancito is the salsa district with at least 30 salsa bars and salsotecas. Another spot to visit is along Avenida Sexta, the street of nightclubs and restaurants.

Gastronomic Festival sounds like a blast. Great updates, Mira. We really liked our short stay in Cali and we spent them with Vinz too. But the highlight for us was the lulada. Man, I'd kill for one of them right about now.

Great that you made some new local friends who showed you around Cali. I like the looks of the Teatro Municipal Enrique Buenaventura and I think it is fine to have a place like the Parque de los Poetas.
