Restaurant Name: Un' Altra Volta
In 2002 opened Un' Ultra Volta is a space where tradition is combined with creativity with an aim to offer the amplest quality and, at the same time, to satisfy the most varied pleasures. The customers can choose from the exclusive ice cream, handmade chocolates and pastries to the best Italian style espresso coffee, all made of carefully selected ingredients. The gleaming white and chrome layout makes it seam both futuristic and inviting.
Un' Ultra Volta is a family tradition, which has been perfected over the past 30 years, to obtain a genuine product of delicate consistency and pleasant taste. Flavours are divided into groups: Chocolats, Traditional Creams, Dulce de Leche, Fruits, Genuine and Volta Ligth; each of them contains a wide variety of the finest flavours. The counter staff happily let you have a taste of different ones if you ask. This is certainly the best quality ice cream I have tried in Buenos Aires, the city where the ice cream is some of the best in the world, due to the strong Italian influence. One thing that is also amazing. You can have ice cream delivered to your apartment while in BsAs. It comes packed with dry ice. I think this is fantastic! For delivery, call free phone number 0810 88 86582. They speak English.
The place is open Sun-Thu 8am-2am, Fri 8am-3am and Sat 8am-4am.
Favorite Dish: Each time I tried some new flavours and all of them were wonderfully intense. But somehow, my favourite were Dulce de Leche Volta (with almonds and hazelnuts covered caramel), Chocolate Amargo (dark chocolate), Marron Glace and Mango. Just heavenly!

Restaurant Name: Freddo
One time best ice cream parlor Freddo started as a family business in 1969 with its first shop on Avenida Callao, in the heart of Barrio Norte. It has been serving locals since then. The company was sold in the early nineties and has expanded because of this, but unfortunately it also meant a descent in its quality.
The good news is that Freddo has recently been sold off the corporation and it is again in family hands. Let's hope that this means a better days for Freddo again. The ice cream is still good but their prices don't match the quality, espeially if we compare it with its comopetitiors, Volta (opened in 2002 by original family who started Freddo) and Persicco (www.persicco.com).
Freddo has numerous shops throughout the city and has even expanded into Uruguay and Paraguay. Aside from the modern interiors and brand new flavours, they have also created a line Kosher and gluten-free ice cream and are even served in Aerolineas Argentinas business class in-flight menu. A great variety of flavours is offered, divided in groups as Chocolats, Creams, Dulce de Leche, Creamy Fruits and Natural Fruits. You have to call 0810 33 for home delivery.
Favorite Dish: During my visit of Buenos Aires I tried many flavours and my favourite were Mousse de Chocolate, Dulce de Leche con Almendros (Dulce de Leche with Almonds) and Frutilla a la Crema (Creamy Strawberry). Yummy!

Clasica y Moderna: Literary Cafe Culture & Live Music Venue

Restaurant Name: Clasica y Moderna
Clasica y Moderna is a venerable place that functions beautifully as a restaurant, cafe, bookshop, live music venue and art gallery. It dates back in 1918 and it's one of the most famous places in Buenos Aires where arty crowd gathers for drinks and live music.
Clasica y Moderna is a very pleasant and relaxed place with a nice atmosphere and an interesting overhead decorations that include old bicycles and signs. Daytime literary cafe culture and nightly live music gives an artistic atmosphere to the place. The program is available in the website; it can be anything from jazz, gospel, tango and Musica Popular Argentina. Though quite small, the bookshop in the back has a good selection of English-language titles, including Buenos Aires photo and history books.
Favorite Dish: As a restaurant, they offer variety of dishes, from salads, pasta, meat and fish dishes and delicious deserts. As expected, quite good wine card is available. I actually never came here to have a lunch or dinner. But when I passed by, I usually took the opportunity to have a cup of coffee or a glass of Malbec vine in this pleasant ambience.

El Calero: Popular Spot by Day and Night

Restaurant Name: El Calero
One of the many bars and restaurants crammed around Plaza Serrano, El Calero offers refreshingly spacious upstairs seating, a nice contrast the smoke-filled downstairs. White sofas line the walls and tall windows look out onto the plaza.vsesti High ceilings with wooden beams stretching the length of the room are reminiscent of an old barn that perhaps once stood in this place. In fine weather people occupy the outdoor tables though. I passed by the restaurant on a sunny day so I took a seat outside. The food looked tempting and I decided to have lunch here.
El Calero offers a large menu with choices extending from salads, pasta, rice and meat dishes, pizza, as well a couple of vegetarian options. The drink list is extensive, offering popular imported alcohol such as Bacardi Rum and Jose Cuervo Tequilla, mixed drinks and wine.
During the day, this place is a calm and relaxing with couples, friends and families enjoying lunch or a late tea. After 8pm dinner is served and the scene slowly evolves from casual afternoon to pre-party dinner, and then, after 2am, finally into bar in full. It's a popular techno music spot on the Plaza Serrano evening circuit.
Favorite Dish: I had a very tasty vegetarian meal that consisted of brown rice, roasted pumpkin, soya steak, stemed carrot, courgette and aubergine and fresh soya sprouts with soya sauce. A glass of Malbec wine was a nice companion to the pure and natural taste of the food.

La Querencia: Cocina Regional

Restaurant Name: La Querencia
I passed by this restaurant several times a day as I was staying in the very same neighbourhood. Being away during the days, I had no real opportunity to dine there - well, until one of the last days. One night I was about to make for going out and wanted to have a dinner on the way, somewhere close. I consulted the owner of the apartment, Vivian, a very nice lady, always helpful with advices and suggestions.
She recommended a typical gaucho restaurant La Querencia, a small and rustic place at very affordable prices, that developed its fame for the quality and prize. La Querencia has a very attractive ambience with trunks on sight and quaint tables. Its pleasant decoration recalls the country's north. The friendly staff wear 'bombacha de gaucho', a typical gaucho dress.
Though they offer variety of regional main dishes, La Querencia is known for the best empanadas in the city. It would come as no surprise to find that every culture on the planet has 'some version of the empanada' (stuffed pastry). It is likely that empanadas are originally from Galicia, Spain. But there is something unique about Latin American empanada and Argentines would argue that theirs are the best.
The restaurant is open Mon-Thu noon-4pm, 7:30pm-midnight; Fri-Sun noon-4pm, 7:30pm-1am. Like many places in Buenos Aires, La Querencia also delivers to your doorstep.
Favorite Dish: I had a fine selection of empanadas of different shapes and fillings: spinach, ricotta, mushroom and tuna. The delicious dinner was accompanied by a glass of Malbec wine.
