Overlooked Lakewood

Steilacoom Lake is my favorite--

The upper end of Steilacoom near where I lived
possibly because used to live only a couple of blocks from it. I don't know. It just seems to me to be the most scenic of the lakes in Lakewood.

Lakewood has a lot to offer

but is often overlooked--given its bigger, flasher neighbors, Tacoma and Seattle. It's named Lakewood for a good reason. There are a number of lakes within the city limits--the largest are: American Lake, Lake Steilacoom, Gravelly Lake, Lake Louise and Waughop Lake. In fact, almost 10% of the area which encompasses Lakewood is water.

Possibly the most beautiful attraction

Lakewood has to offer is Lakewold Gardens. But one of the things I enjoyed most while living here was walking through the neighborhoods and looking at the lovely fences and gardens. Lakewood has a number of small parks that are often overlooked by visitors to the area. Edgewater Park on Edgewater Drive, is a tiny park--it isn't even signposted as a park. The only amenity is a public boat ramp (for launching boats into Steilacoom Lake) and a small grassy area which could be suitable for picnics. Some locals enjoy swimming there in the summer.

Excellent 5-star tips - very well written. The Juggalos sound frightening.
