Feels a bit like fantasy island ?

by Aquacraig - last update: Jul 14, 2008

Many facets to this diamond in the Gulf.

One side of Samui airport
Samui is an intriguing little island on the east side of mainland Thailand at the south end of the Gulf.
The airport has to be one of the most unique in the world. Arriving here you expect Mr. O'rork from fantasy island to pull up at any time. The thatched roof terminals and open plan are fantastic.
The island itself is whatever you want it to be. Although there are many tourists here there are still pockets of local villages scattered throughout the island. I would have to say that Bohput beach is the pick of the beaches closest to town. The unique fishermans village is a great place to dine also. Starfish cafe was a highlight of our visit here.

There are also many toursit attractions, such as elephant safaris, the mummified monk and grandfather rock.
A good place for a few days.

Cons:"Wouldn't come here for the beaches."
In A Nutshell:"Nice stopover for a day or two."
