Mountains meet the city! Chiang Mai is a slightly more relaxing change of pace compared to Bangkok. Its a flat city at the base of the mountains, with the Ping River running through the middle. There are many day trips to do here, from visiting hill tribes to temples or gemstone factories to silk and craft factories. There is a night time cultural park called Kuhm Khantoke where you can dine while watching traditional local dancing. It costs about Baht 1400 for transfers dinner and show. |
Visit Doi Suthep They say you must visit the temple of Doi Suthep if you are to return to Chiang Mai! This is one of Thailands most respected and famous temples. You can walk up the temple via 300 steps to the peak of the mountain or you can catch a cable car. |
After hours.... Try and make sure you are in Chiang Mai for a Sunday evening so you can see the Sunday walking street markets. This market is huge. We manged to kill an easy 5 hours (including dinner) here. Its the kind of market that you always wanted to see in Thailand ! There is also a nightly night bazaar market in the main street, but this market is mostly like others in Bangkok etc. Good for a look if you need some emergency clothing etc. |
