| Had to look hard to find this one! |
Feeling safe in Bangkok! This picture was taken four days after the government coup in 2006 . Apart from a tank or two on major intersections there was no difference in the way of life compared to our previous visit. The city was still full of life. We were lucky enough to catch the Thai open tennis tournament at the Impact Arena in Muang Thong Thani. This area is about 30 mins outside of the city and costs about 140-160 baht in a metered taxi. Must say that moving around the city on the skytrain is a fast way to go. Skytrain costs 10 - 45 baht each way depending on where you go. This city never sleeps. If you want to do it, then most often its possible! |

New Suvarnabhumi Airport Bangkok The new Bangkok airport opened on the 28th of September 2006. It really is HUGE. It is a credit to the people of Thailand and the people who built it. Access is via a fantastic highway and a skytrain is currently under construction (Oct 2006) to allow easy future access. Be sure to know which gate your flight leaves from before being dropped off there. It can be a bit of a walk with all that extra shopping to find the correct gate. Trolleys are plentiful though. Plenty of dining areas available after check in pre flight. Though at the time of writing (Oct 2006) there was a lack of signage inside the terminal, I guess this will improve as time goes on. If you need to eat or drink before flight, do so before X-ray as there are no facilities after this point. |
