"Welcome to My Pages" OneDolphin's Profile
Hi, I'm Georgie and welcome to my pages. I live in Perth, Western Australia, where my family emigrated to in May 1969, from Warrington, North West England. I am the eldest of 5, and the only girl, with 2 sons and 4 grandchildren. I work full time and also have a part time job to help me with my next major journey. I have a few hobbies of which I will post some pics in my personal pages to share with you.
I travelled to Singapore on Christmas Eve 1992 for a 3 week stay. I was attending the wedding of a friend there but took extra time to do some sightseeing. I stayed with a couple that were close friends of my mate and they made me very welcome in their home. I travelled all over the place on the MRT and the bus, and although I didn't speak the language found travelling very easy.
Here's a photo of me in front of one of the department stores with awesome Christmas decorations.
I visited an internet friend in Emory, Texas in 2002. It's a long flight from Perth to LA (via Sydney) then from LAX to Dallas, then we had a 2 hour drive south east to Emory, a very small country town, way out in the boonies. I never saw a taxi or a bus in the area, very rural. While there we had a weekend away in San Antonio where I went to visit a place I've always wanted to see, The Alamo.
I was there in July and the weather was very hot and humid.
A couple of weeks after I got back from Texas, I took a trip back home to England with my dad and 2 of my 4 brothers. It was about the 6th or 7th trip for my dad, the 2nd for me and the 1st for my brothers. It was an interesting trip for me showing my brothers the place where we grew up, and the places we went for our holidays. It was a wonderful 4 weeks catching up with family and the weather was good for most of the time. We did get a really bad day the day we went to Chester. I was a drowned rat within 10 minutes of getting off the train.
Another trip to England with my dad and stepmum to be.
Another good trip with very little wet weather. The highlight of this one was when we had a day trip to Torquay on the train. Everyone thought we were mad doing a 5 hour train trip to spend 3 hours in Torquay then another 5 hour trip back to Warrington. We thoroughly enjoyed it and 3 hours was plenty of time to walk through the main shopping area and pick up some souvenirs.
Had a train trip up to Edinburough on the train too, another long trip but well worth it.
I am planning a trip at the end of this year on an around the world ticket. I will be spending Christmas and New Year with family in England, then on to Canada for a coast to coast train trip, starting in Vancouver and ending in Toronto to visit with an internet friend. From there I will then be travelling to the states, visiting net friends in Maryland, South Carolina, Michigan, Idaho and Massachusetts. This trip will end with a five day stay in LA, taking in 2 day tours then down to San Diego for 3 day tours, one day tour to Tijuana then back home.
I hope to be able to update my pages here as I go, but not knowing how I'll go with getting net access I'm not sure if it can be done. I could get a dial up option from my provider at $8.00 per hour but that to me is a rip off considering I'll still be paying my broadband bill for home and not using it. If anyone has any tips they can give me on access overseas I would really appreciate it.
One of my hobbies is cake decorating. I went to a course when my 2 boys were in primary school and became the cake maker for many family and friend's celebrations.
I also enjoy creating themes for parties. My latest was for a function at one of our local Rendezvous Hotels. The theme was "Christmas on the beach". The idea was to transform the hotel ballroom into the beach outside the hotel.
For this we used artificial Norfolk Island Pines as Christmas Trees. Market umbrellas were used to represent islands off the coast of Perth. The islands were set behind 12 metres of fabric sewn together to represent the ocean with rubber fish attached and flashing fibre optic lights to represent sea anemones. We attempted to create a boat from the stage and set up a beach scene with deck chairs, umbrellas, beach toys etc. The centrepieces for the tables were also beach themed with Santa in various summer poses.
