Morocco is a great destination with wonderful trails, wild mountains, fascinating people and a dozen summits over 4000 metres high - they're not called the High Atlas for nothing! Lower elevation treks are available too. English speaking guide(s) cook your meals, and mules carry all the essentials so you can enjoy travelling light and spend your day exploring ancient villages, pastoral valleys and hidden passes that lead to panoramic ridges. Far above dramatic stark crags and rocky trails contrast with terraced village gardens and ruined kasbahs. You can wander at will and perhaps bag a few peaks.

Private treks of the High Atlas & Desert for all abilities can be arranged for any duration at a fixed daily rate depending on number of people travelling. Transfers to the starting points and from the final destination are available from Marrakech or from elswhere.

My trekking itineraries are designed to be integrated into a tailor-made holiday and are, therefore, independent and private to each client rather than fixed date departures of large groups and because of this freedom they have become very popular with those who really wish to get away from it all. With our trekking you can enjoy the incredible beauty of the Atlas Mountain region at your chosen pace and for the duration and route of your preference.

Mgoun Region

MGOUN SUMMIT 4068m 8DAYS/7NIGHTS

Located in the Central High Atlas, the Aďt Bouguemez and M’Goun valleys, right in the middle of the highest ranges of the massif, are undoubtedly the most beautiful and spectacular ones of the High Atlas. This trek leads from the Aďt Bouguemez valley down to the M’Goun valley and gorges through an endless variety of sites. This is for sure one of the most beautiful treks offered by the Moroccan mountains !

Desert Circuits

We are often asked about camel treks in the Erg Chebbi dunes from the village of Mersouga. One night in the desert is enough for some, while others dream of being part of a caravan and going on a journey. Whatever your dream, we can arrange it. Treks include all meals, desert bivouac with mattresses and bedding, camels!, and guide.

**3Days trip :

Day 01: Transfer to World Heritage Site of Ait Benhaddou backdrop for more than 20 films, crossing the spectacular Tizi n’Tichka Pass of the High Atlas mountains. You will pass through many Berber villages, and once in the desert, riverside oasis and barren hillsides are clustered with Kasbahs (fortified dwellings that house many families and their livestock). Transport to Valley of the Roses, Moroccan dinner and evening at a typical small hotel with beautiful views of the Dades valley, valley of a thousand kasbahs. Overnight in Dades.

Day 02: Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer from the Dades Valley to Todra Gorge: a massive fault dividing the High Atlas mountains, rising to 300 m in a narrow valley with palmeries and Berber villages. After lunch you will transport further into the desert to the tiny village of Mersouga, where you will overnight camel trek into the beautiful Erg Chebbi dunes - the highest in Morocco. One and a half hour camel ride at sunset to a Berber dinner and sleep under the stars or in tents at a desert camp.

Day 03: Views of sunrise in the desert by camel and return to Merzouga. Depart for evening arrival in Marrakech over the High Atlas Mountains.

This trip can be extended by one day to include a visit to Zagora, the gateway city to Sahara, overnight camel bivouac, and 4x4 through the Saghro mountains to Mersouga.

day trip from Marrakech

Day 1 : Drive from Marrakech to the little village of Imlil (1h30mn) :

IMLIL - AROUMD - SIDI CHAMHAROUCH - IMLIL.
We set off today towards the southwest skirting the Berber town of Imlil (1740m), known as Morocco ’s ‘Little Chamonix’, set, as we are, in the upper level foothills of the Western High Atlas mountains of the Toubkal National Park. With streams and paths branching out in all directions, we traverse the Tamatert Valley until we reach the hamlet of Achelm to strike out for some 4km towards the south towards the Berber village of Aroumd (Aremd) (1843m), passing the hamlets of Taourirt, Targa, and Imoula, up and down the stark slopes, the jagged Western High Atlas peaks of the Jbel Toubkal Massif - at 4167m the highest peak in North Africa - before us, with her awe-inspiring sister peaks the Jbels Aguelzim (3547m), Aksouâl (3847m) and the Adrar Adj (3122m) watching us all the way.

We shall stop at Aroumd to visit this rather singular village in the Assif Aďt Mizane Valley , built seemingly house upon house on a large moraine spur overlooking ancient irrigated terraced fields of barley, corn and vegetables and always surrounded by almond and walnut trees. We thence carry on for another 8km.to the equally-quaint village of Sidi Chamharouch, a Berber village set beside a waterfall and small stream, again with its pisé homes seemingly built somewhat chaotically one into another. This village is a place of pilgrimage for devout Moslems and it is where there is a marabout shrine – forbidden to non-Moslems - said to be a relic of a pre-Islamic religious and naturalist cult.
We take a break for a picnic, within full view of Jbel Toubkal, prior to setting off back down the other side of the valley at a gentle pace back to the delightful Douar ACHAYN .
IMLIL - TIZI n'TAMATERT - TINERHOURHINE - IKISS - AMSSAKROU - TIZI N'AGUERSSIOUAL - AGUERSSIOUAL - TADDART - AIT SOUKA - IMLIL.
With the mighty Jbel Toubkal - at 4167m the highest peak in the Maghreb - and her sisters Aguelzim (3547m) and Aksouâl (3847m) almost within touching distance, we set off on our private, guided hike towards the east along the Tamatert Valley to turn north after some 50 minutes up into and through the Tizi n’Tamatert (229m) of the Aourirt N’Ouassif (2274m) and down via the Berber village of Tinerhourhine into the Valley of the Oued Imenane.

We follow this Valley north, with the Jbel Oukaďmeden (3268m) to our right, along winding mule trails through almond, walnut and apple groves and terraced Berber hamlets, all seeming to cling precariously to the mountain slopes. The majority of the villages we shall see on our hike are built of pisé, dug from the earth of the surrounding slopes. Our piste takes us on to the village of Ikiss and up to the village of Amssakrou where, after some 3 hours hiking, we’ll stop for our field picnic surrounded by the mountains of the Jbel Oukaďmeden, Tizi n’Ou Arg (2258m) and the Tizi n’Tiratene (2268m).
Once refreshed, we turn towards the west along mule trails and alongside some naked escarpments up into and through the Tizi n’Aguerssiouâl (1767m) and through a couloir of grey and ochre rocks until we reach the main village of Aguerssiouâl in the Assif n’ Aďt Mizane Valley (2664m). From here we set off south back up the valley towards the impressive peaks of Jbel Toubkal, Aguelzim and Aksouâl until we walk through the village of Taddart on to the village of Imlil then up to the gite situated in Achayn Village
