Jessica Lake - Whiteshell Provincial Park

The Whiteshell is a quiet Provincial Park 1.5 hours east of Winnipeg on the most western edge of the Canadian Shield. It is a protected natural area, with many lakes, rivers, forests and lots of wildlife to spot. The park is in Manitoba, but it straddles the Ontario border and has a much different terrain than what is usually associated with Manitoba. Just before you enter the park, the flowing prairies are abruptly broken up by an incredibly rocky landscape. There are several lakes that are lined with cottages and a few lakes have either cottages you can rent on a nightly or weekly basis and also campgrounds. If you have the desire to go swimming, boating, hiking, fishing or even take a portage trip, this is the place to go in the summer. In the winter, the park is covered in several feet of snow, making it an ideal snowmobiling destination.

Cool falls. I am always amazed by what is lurking around the next corner in the Whiteshell. I visited one of the petroform sites for the first time this year.
