Restaurant Name: Pinotage Restaurant and Wine Cellar

The Pinotage Restaurant is located at Leriba Lodge, a hotel and conference venue in the Zwartkop Nature Reserve on the banks of the Hennops River. The restaurant offers a buffet breakfast daily, and an a la carte menu in the evening and well as lunch from Wednesday to Friday. The full a la carte menu is available on the website. In addition to the a la carte menu, the following are available:

On Wednesdays: Venison evening (main course is R65-00, which includes a glass of red wine)
On Fridays: Pasta evening (main course is R35-00, which includes a glass of wine)
On Saturdays: Bobotie* evening (main course is R55-00, which includes a glass of red wine)
On Sundays: Buffet lunch, accompanied by a jazz band (main course is R 98-00)

I would recommend sitting outside on the verandah (weather allowing). Kids under 12 eat free, and provision is made to keep the kids busy on Sundays (face painting and a jumping castle).

* Bobotie is a tradional South African dish, made with curried mince, bread, sultanas, and baked with a milk and egg topping.

Favorite Dish: The Pinotage Restaurant has "Wine" as its main theme. It was named for the locally developed red wine variety, a varietal between Hermitage (Cinsaut) and Pinot Noir. The restaurant boasts an award winning wine list.

Restaurant Name: Prime Grill Steakhouse

South African love their steak houses - no doubt about that. This restaurant is part of a local chain and offers an a la carte menu that leans strongly towards steak, fish and chicken dishes. What makes this particular restaurant such a firm favourite with the locals (and believe me, you have to get there early on weekends to avoid queueing), is the relaxed atmosphere and the "eat as much as you like" breakfast and lunch/dinner buffets. These buffets offer a large variety of dishes at very low prices. Be warned, the food is OK, but not great. But you need not leave feeling hungry, and eating at Prime Grill won't break the piggy bank. Kids are welcome.

Favorite Dish: The "eat as much as you like" breakfast buffet, offering cereal, fruit juice, joghurt, fruit in season, bacon, chicken livers, mince, potatoes, toast, french toast, eggs, omelettes and coffee for R 29-95 (less than $5-00). Breakfast is available every day from 8h00 until about 11h00.

The "eat as much as you like" lunch and dinner carvery, offering soup of the day, 3 meat dishes, vegetables, gravies, rice, potatoes, a pasta dish, stew or curry, salads and ribs for R 33.95 (less than $5-00). The carvery is available throughout the day from about 12h00.

Restaurant Name: Meadow Green Restaurant

The Meadow Green Restaurant at the Irene Country Lodge is located within the historic village of Irene in Centurion. This area is known for its rustic country atmosphere, oak-lined country lanes and cows grazing in green pastures. The restaurant is decorated in an English Manor style, and boasts a relaxed atmosphere. It offers excellent cuisine, beautiful views over the lake and gardens, and friendly, efficient service.

Favorite Dish: The daily breakfast buffet offers an excellent selection of breakfast dishes, ranging from cereal, bread, muffins, pastries, fresh fruit and joghurt, to the more traditional eggs, bacon, sausages, fried tomato and mushrooms. It is served from 6h30 to 9h30 every morning (to 10h30 on Sundays), at R 85-00 per person (kids eat for free). The restaurant also offers a lunch and dinner buffet at R 125-00 per person, and an a la carte menu.

I recommend sitting outside on the verandah (weather permitting) for a great view over the swimming pool area, gazebo and lake with its birdlife. Don't forget to enjoy sundowners at the pool gazebo on the lake before dinner.
