The Rodin Museum not only houses the definitive collection of sculptures and drawings by Auguste Rodin, but also the biggest collection of work by Camille Claudel, the talented sculpter who was also Rodin's lover. These works are on display in the Hôtel Biron, an imposing 18th century mansion close to Les Invalides, and its garden. The gardens are truly beautiful; very quiet and peaceful. I would suggest visiting the museum early in the morning to avoid most of the crowds. The museum is open every day (except Mondays) from 9h30 to 17h45 (April to September) and 9h30 to 16h45 (October to March). Entrance fee: 6 Euro

The Musée d'Orsay houses an impressive collection of European art dating from 1848 to 1914. It is situated across the river Seine from the Tuileries gardens, in a converted 19th century railway station. The Impressionist and Post-Impressionist collections are not to be missed. Renoir, Cézanne, Manet, Monet, Degas and Toulouse-Lautrec are well represented, and the museum boasts the best collection of Van Gogh's paintings outside the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. The museum is open every day (except Mondays) from 9h30 to 18h00 (on Thursdays to 21h45). Entrance fee: 7,50 Euros

The newly renovated Musée de l'Orangerie, located in a pavilion in the corner of the Tuileries gardens, was reopened in May 2006 after being closed to the public for more than six years. The museum houses masterpieces by Cézanne, Renoir, Utrillo, Rousseau, Modigliani, Picasso, Derain and Soutine from the Jean Walther and Paul Guillaume Collection, and Monet's Nymphéas murals. These eight hugh paintings of waterlilies cover the walls of two oval rooms in the museum. The museum is open every day (except Tuesdays) from 12h30 to 19h00 (to 21h00 on Fridays). Entrance fee: 6,50 Euros
