The Camelot Crest - Yerevan

The Camelot Crest

Camelot Cafe and Restaurant: Decent Restaurant in Yerevan

I stumbled into Camelot because I couldn't find any other restaurant in Yerevan at night that looked appetizing. I was not overwhelmed by Camelot's quality, but it was decent. The interior is pretty standard post-Soviet fare - which a large flat screen TV (playing Model TV), a large bar, and small dinner tables. I had the "Armenian Pizza," which was essentially pepporoni and mushroom pizza without tomato sauce. The prices on the menu were all reasonable and the person who I went with had some excellent looking pork barbeque.

Service was prompt and friendly and the menu is translated into English, which was nice. Though I probably would not go back, I did generally enjoy the experience.

Caucasus Tavern (Kavkaz) - Yerevan

Caucasus Tavern (Kavkaz)

Kavkaz: Amazing Caucasian Cuisine! Best in Yerevan

Kavkaz Restaurant is one of those rare finds that is both inexpensive and excellent. Come here for an authentic Armenian (or Georgian) dinner. The interior of the restaurant is decorated in a traditional rural Armenian decor, with the wait staff dressed in traditional outfits. I found the service to be excellent (which is rare in Yerevan - many of whose restaurants seem to maintain a Soviet-level of service).

Now to the menu: It's comprehensive! Both of the nights I went there, we ate lamb, chicken, and pork barbeque (all of which was excellent) for the main dish and started with a nice home-made hummus (not indigenous to Armenia, but still good) and Lahvosh (can't visit Armenia and not eat Lahvosh - the traditional thin bread). Perhaps the highlight though is Kavkaz's Boereg - a cheese-stuffed bread dish, which tastes a bit like the most savory cheese pizza you have ever had, but even better. All in all, it's hard to go wrong at this restaurant, whose menu is also in English (BIG plus!).

Don't leave dinner at Kavkaz without trying either their mulberry or apricot vodkas. Cheap and excellent!

Please -- do yourself a favor and visit this fantastic restaurant when visiting Yerevan.
