Yerevan has had a major face-lift since I was last there in October 2006. Things are happening in this city, which use to be a post-Soviet outpost, but has now transformed into a booming capital city, with a vibrant feel, great restaurants, and an exciting nightlife.
Yes, Yerevan is no longer defined by Russia or their territorial dispute with Azerbaijan, but has come up as a city in its own right. This is a fun and still-inexpensive place to visit! |
| | Great Food! Armenia is known for its unique food, which is centered around barbequed meat dishes, including fantastic lamb, veal, and chicken. Yerevan is the home to a number of fantastic barbeque places, ranging from street stalls to higher-end restaurants.
Come to Yerevan and be sure to eat Lahvosh (traditional bread) and have some roasted lamb! |
Good Nightlife! Sit around one of Yerevan's many beer gardens (easiest in the summer) and enjoy Yerevan's active nightlife. Kilikia beer is consumed here more than anything else, but a variety of domestic and international beers are widely available.
Traditional bars are also plentiful and seem crowded on virtually every night of the week. | | |
