My Fantastic Holiday in Thailand

by a60 - last update: Jan 23, 2009

Night view from our room in Baiyoke Sky
It has taken me 12 long months of planning but it was worth it. We arrived in Bangkok on 27.12.08 and I was ecstatic to see that the streets around our hotel were actually night markets! (the rest of my family knew that they had lost me for good) It was quite late and I decided that I had better rest up for the next day.
1500 shops!
What a fascinating city Bangkok is – it’s polluted, overpopulated, traffic is chaotic but a fascinating place to visit AND the shopping – what can I say, Bangkok is a shoppers paradise.
The highlight of my holiday was bathing with the elephants in Kanchanaburi. There were 4 us, 2 mahouts and 2 elephants and we rode bareback down to the river. We were given "shampoo" and scrubbing brushes. The elephants seemed to have as much fun as we did. After scrubbing them they played with us. They would shake and we would fall off then they would sit down and there was no option but to slide down their back. They sat patiently while we climbed back on and then they did the same again. We spent over 2 hours with them and it is a memory I will treasure forever.
