Schweitzer Mountain - Sandpointe, Idaho | View from the top of Schweitzer Mountain. |
Fortunate enough to attend a wedding in northern Idaho this summer. Schweitzer Mountain in Sandpointe is gorgeous. Approximately 2 hours drive from Spokane. Winter skiing, snowshowing, hiking and mountain biking are dominant activities. I much prefer this area to the Beaver Creek / Vail, Colorado area. Less congested, more pristine. (No elevators going up the mountain, etc. thus detracting from the natural beauty). The nature hike up Schweitzer is a lot of fun. Many switchbacks but the views are breathtaking. |
| | Lots of lovely flora/fauna... The nature hike is worth doing. Take the chairlift up and follow the main pass down until the wooded area begins. A really nice experience, see a variety of flowers, some terrific views. I took my Nikon D50 and had a great time taking photographs along the way. |
| | A great place to do some mountain biking... The chairlift at the foot of Schweitzer will take bikers & bikes to the top. Tickets are around $11 for a day pass. The ride down the main pass is steep - the dust will fly! |

| Pros: | "Gorgeous scenery, great activities, laidback atmosphere on the mountain." | | Cons: | "Schweitzer Mountain - moderately expensive [lodging upwards of $100/night], dining options on the mountain are limited." |
