Biliran Island

Biliran lies just off the north coast of Leyte. Between both islands runs the Biliran Strait, only a few km wide. At its narrowest part in the south, a bridge connects Biliran with Leyte.

Treasure trove Biliran has five different waterfalls to explore. To reach these falls involves trekking which varies from easy to hard. The more popular one is Tinago Falls in Caibiran Biliran. The most beautiful but much more difficult to reach is Bagombong Falls in Almeria Biliran.

Island hopping is a must. Higatangan and Maripipi Islands has white-sand beaches . Higatangan has shifting sand bars depending on the wind direction . Expect to have the entire beach to one's self. Biliran is yet to become a tourism hotspot.

Hiking around the town is a great way to meet the locals. Follow a path that leads a to creek somewhere and you might just surprise yourself with a wondrous sight such as two carabaos cooling off on a waterfall.

Farming is the main livelihood of the people of Biliran. Because the island is mountainous, rice are grown on terraces just like they do in Banaue, but on a smaller scale.
