I suppose that part of the reason one would devote such time to their virtual tourist page is to relive travels through travelogues, pictures and etc.. This being so I can hardly contain myself to the maximum allowed characters per chapter. Goreme, and Cappadocia in general, is just plain and simple awesome! I dream of the day I return to Cappadocia, and the four days I spent here are four of my favorite days traveling to any location on this Earth. I believe a small amount of my clamour of this area may rise from circumstance, (I met some great people while I was here), but a large amount of it is buried deep into the geological uniqueness, the historicity, the culture, the character and the variety that Goreme offers. If you are planning a trip to Turkey and are considering your options, plan for a several day stay in Cappadocia, I promise it will be worth your while. |

| | Goreme is Friendly In this world, as we travelers well know, touristy places attract some undesireable people whose primary goal is to profit off of tourists misfortunate. Goreme almost seems to be exempt from this standard. I found Turkey in general to be very friendly, however this may be because I spent a good amount of time here in Goreme. The locals are very hospitable. For example, I was on a guided tour outside of the city and had a flight booked to Istanbul in the evening. The timing was cutting it close, but I was willing to risk it. The tour started to run a little long and I expressed my concern to the tour guide (who had a bachelors degree in tour guiding, awesome) who briskly made a few phone calls and stated she had made arrangements for me to get back to Goreme to take a taxi to the airport. Turned out this ride she arranged was by a friend of hers, and when I offered to pay the man (he had driven me about 30 minutes, so about hour round trip) he refused payment. I ate meals and smoked nargele with carpet shop workers who all seem to be almost as interested in me (the American Male) as they did of selling carpets (but I could just be naive). The hotel owners, resteraunt employees and tour guides have general concern that you enjoy your time there. I met some really great people in Goreme, which was a blessing beings as I was traveling alone. It's really easy to be a tourist in Goreme! |
| | Unique One day I was riding on the electrical belt thing they have in airports in the Tokyo/Narita airport, dazed and confused from a long 12 hour flight. I looked to my left and there it was, Cappadocia! No not the literal area, a poster advertising Turkey as a destination point, but it had a picture of the uniquely beautiful Cappadocia. It didn't even need to say 'Cappadocia' or 'kapadokya' or any of the other variations of spelling, it just said 'Turkey' because you don't need to tell someone who's been to Cappadocia what it looks like there. That was Cappadocia. The landscape here is incredibly one of a kind and I sit here today typing and regretting that I may not have appreciated it enough. There is one Eiffel Tower, one Angkor Wat and there is one Cappadocia. Enjoy |
