PANTO - Stockport
Stockport Plaza: PANTO

I adore PANTO. The recipe is fairly basic - there should be an old story acted out, the genders of the leads should be reversed, the audience is encouraged to participate. The children have a blast participating as noisy helpers to a persued hero with a shout "He's right behind you!" (a by-phrase for PANTO) The humor is for adults, too - things that properly go over the kid's heads - making the whole event lovely, perfectly lovely. The sets for the show I saw were artistically impressive.

I adore PANTO. It's one of my favorite things about England.

Rising Sun in Hazel Grove: Noisy Lively Pub for Young Folks

The real power of this pub comes out in it's karaoke night - songs so heartfelt in their presentation that the key ceases to matter...

Dress Code: A bare midriff will make you feel more at home. A tracksuit won't get you kicked out, either.

Address: Hazel Grove, at the fork for Maccles/Buxton

Blockbuster Video on the A6: Laugh all you want - this place is packed

It will ultimately take place in your house - as an alternative to pubcrawling. The helpful staff understand why you are there and don't make you feel like a piker for not being at the Dog and Partridge that night.

For me, it is a cross-cultural event since in Morocco we really only watch crap quality pirated DVDs and may never know the light giddiness of dropping a film into the Quik Drop slot.

Dress Code: If you are coming to work, you need the blue and yellow uniform with nametag - no exceptions.

Address: Also on the 300 block of the A6
