| Hakone Ropeway (cablecar) |
Getting There We took the local bus to Yamate Station, the commuter trains to Shin-Yokohama Station, the shinkansen to Odawara, a local train to Hakone-Yumoto, another local train to Miyanoshita, and walked five minutes to the excellent Fujiya Hotel (see tip). |

Sights We did the tourist circuit (see transportation tip): local train further uphill, incline railway, the ropeway (cable car), tourist boat on Lake Ashi, bus, and local train back to the hotel. Total time: three hours We got off at one of the stops on the ropeway and checked out the sulphur mines. We bought hard-boiled eggs cooked in the sulphur. Our daughter must have been hungry, as she ate a whole egg. There are supposed to be views of Mount Fuji, but it was too hazy to see it that day. |

Back at the hotel, we walked around the excellent grounds and gardens. |
