We arrived at the amazing Kyoto Station and walked over its disappointing aerial skywalk. You couldn't really see down from it, so there was no view. We stayed one night at the Hotel Fujita Kyoto (see tip). It was OK and in an excellent central location. We: - walked around Chion-in temple, Maruyama-kôen park, the Ponto-chô nightlife district, Tetsugaku-no-Michi (Path of Philosophy), shopping malls, and Nijô-jô castle and grounds - stayed two nights at the very good Westin Miyako Kyoto hotel (see tip), walked the nature trail up the hill, which is under 2 km but still on the hotel grounds; swam in the pool - visited the nearby Nanzen-ji temple and walked back along the aqueduct |
We also went all the way out to Kameoka to attempt the Hozu-gawa river boat trip, which would have taken us to Arashiyama. Unfortunately, there was "too much water" that day and it was cancelled. |
