No Photos?! It's pretty sad that the city where we live is the city we have literally no photos of! We'll work on correcting that though.
However that being said, we'd like to give whatever advice we can for anyone interested in visiting Norway's capital. |
General Advice First piece of advice: Budget wisely! Oslo is expensive! 1 pint of beer can set you back about 8 EURO.
Second piece of advice: Book your accomodation early. There aren't enough hotels in the city to meet demand and they fill-up quick during the peak season.
Third piece of advice: Unless you're a ski fanatic, only come here between May - October. June - September offers the best weather and highest temps.
Fourth piece of advice: Stay away from the central train station area. It isn't that you'll get mugged or anything but there are a lot of heroine addicts, prostitutes, gypsy beggars and gang members who sort of hang out around that area.
Fifth piece of advice: Avoid taking a taxi. They run on a tax-meter, but they're still very expensive. Take any other form of transport (be sure to buy a bus ticket/metro ticket). |
Schedule If you are doing a trip of Norway, or Scandinavia, only spend a day or two in Oslo. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice enough city, but it is not the best representation of Norway. See holmenkollen, the munch museum, folk museum, the viking ship museum. If the weather is good, take a boat trip in the fjord to one of Oslo's islands.
But after that, unless you have friends here or some reason that requires you to stay, I would recommend leaving and going somewhere else. Bergen is an excellant option. If you are only in Norway for a week or so, I'd do the 'triangle', which is Oslo - Bergen - ferry to flaam/rallarvegen and then train back to Oslo. You will see and appreciate this country so much more if you see what it has to offer. |
